Yaro Starak is an internet business person I greatly admire.
He has made himself into a successful (and profitable) online business entrepreneur.
Its been a wonder to follow his journey over at his blog, Entrepreneurs Journey, pretty much from day one.
Although I don’t agree with everything Yaro says or does (no one’s perfect), the essential bit is that for the most part he has followed a road that has led him to the ultimate in lifestyle business success - like my tagline says: “It’s all about lifestyle”.
Put simply, he understands that if your business can not run without you then basically you have no real business, just another job.
Like Yaro, I have a disdain for the 9 to 5 rat race type of life - is that even a life! I understand that running a business is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I do know that there are many out there working 9 to 5 who would just love to take the step (and risk) and work for themselves.
Carrying on from what Yaro says in his post, the Internet has changed the whole business landscape. No longer does small business have to be small. They have access to a larger market, lower marketing costs and the ability to do business on an almost level playing field as with big business.
With all the automation, systematisation and new business models tools available today, the time is ripe for anyone who wants to, to take a hold of their lives and live it on their terms.
But, unfortunately, many are going about it the wrong way.
The online advertising model is a tough gig. It relies on constant content creation and pageviews. Thus Yaro’s use of the phrase “pageview slave” resonates well. yet most online businesses are still relying heavily on this model.
When I first started out online, advertising was about 90% of my business. Today it’s barely 5%. Now that’s stark reality. Unless you can continually get seven or eight figure pageviews month-in, month-out then you’re on a long and hard road to any sort of lifestyle business success.
Dropping the online advertising business model, one can sustain a decent “lifestyle” business (and income) from as little as a thousand pageviews, 300 email subscribers and little more than that.
I have a post coming up in the next few days that I have been working on for a while now. It pretty much states my mind set with running an online business from home. I will be outlining the topics that I’ll be writing about here at HomeOfficeVoice from now on.
This post offers up some clues, Yaro’s post offers up many other clues and at the end of the day, it’s a collection of ideas and business philosophies that I truly believe in and know that work … because I am living it.
Another person online who really “gets it” is Terry Dean. I urge you to visit his blog, sign up to his stuff and learn - the guy knows his stuff.

Note: Yaro, next time you’re in Melbourne (or I’m in QLD - not Canada though) we’re definitely having lunch and a chat - on me.
